The BIG how to

Here's another thing I wish I knew about before AND soon after I got young Salvador. Now, I'm aware that Cesar Millan might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I have also seen some disastrous end results because a puppy is being treated like children, due to no information,so here we go!

Spaniels are notoriously funny tempered dogs. Salvador has been pretty easy thus far, but he has his moments of persistent arrogance. Obviously there's nothing wrong with having a confident pup, but there are little things like still trying to get up on the couch after about a year's denying him the right to - and trust me, he knows just which buttons to push to get his way, even more so with strangers who naturally think he's the cutest, cuddliest lap dog around... I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to give in to those droopy eyes, BUT! And this is a big but...countless people have told me their experiences with spoiled Spaniels(although this is something that could be found in any breed of dog that is allowed free reign all through it's life). I have heard of husbands being alienated from the bedroom due to a wife's over protective dog or of children who can't sit on the couch with mom because there's a growling dog claiming the space. This kind of behavior can cause years of problems and it often occurs because owners don't understand how to control and curb this behavior from an early age.
These training tips take you all the way from choosing a medium level puppy(this is the level of energy dog that you want, if possible) to taking it home and starting to set boundaries right away that will prevent your dog from developing troubling behavior later on. He shows us how you can take a dog from any breed and teach them by utilizing their natural breed qualities.
Also available as a book !
As I've said before, I only came across these tips on training young dogs way after I got Salvador, but that didn't mean it was too late for me to learn some valuable things about my dog and remember, with enough persistence and consistency it is never too late to teach and old dog new tricks! Watch the episode on How to Raise the Perfect Dog here and I advise anyone considering getting a puppy to watch this!
